The University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) is growing its Neurocritical Care (NCC) team, which is based in the Neuro-Intensive Care Unit at Tampa General Hospital. Qualified applicants will hold a MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree and be board-eligible in neurocritical care (or the equivalent). Board-certified candidates with dedicated NCC fellowship training are preferred.
Academic Expectations: MCOM espouses a tripartite academic mission of excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. The NCC team is a Division within the USF Departments of Neurosurgery (primary appointment) and Neurology (secondary appointment). All NCC faculty are expected to contribute to the growth of our field in some capacity ranging from mentoring of trainees/medical students to serving as a Primary Investigator on clinical trials. For more information about the Department of Neurosurgery, please visit: https://health.usf.edu/medicine/neurosurgery; for information about USF Neurology, please see:
Clinical Setting: The intensivist-led NeuroICU is a high-performing team comprised of nine physicians and 16 APPs. Collectively, with the hospital-based nursing staff, we cover 32 beds within the unit plus emergency consults as needed. TGH is a 1,010-bed level 1 trauma facility and the #1 U.S. News & World Report ranked hospital in Tampa Bay (and #3 in all of Florida). In the spring of 2024, TGH broke ground on a new, 11-story NeuroScience pavilion that will house dedicated NS operating rooms, a state-of-the-art NeuroICU, plus step down units. Design plans are done in collaboration with USF, who will assume oversight of patient care.
Professional Growth: The Department of Neurosurgery encourages professional growth for all faculty and staff members. Structured mentorship is built into normal operations; service opportunities (e.g. committee assignments, leadership responsibilities, etc. ) are entrusted to faculty based on personal interests and capabilities; and participation in Society conferences is supported. In short, career advancement is expected.
