A Neurocritical Care fellowship position opening is available for July 1, 2025 start at the ACGME-accredited Neurocritical Care Fellowship program at Indiana University School of Medicine.

PREREQUISITES:

NCC-1 (24-month track): Successful completion an of ACGME-accredited Neurology, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, or General Surgery program prior to start date.

NCC-2 (12-month track): Must have completed a fellowship in anesthesiology critical care medicine, internal medicine critical care medicine, or a surgical critical care residency prior to start date. 

NCC-2 (12-month track-neurosurgeons): Must have completed or be currently enrolled in a neurosurgery residency.

Indiana University School of Medicine houses one of the largest Neurocritical Care Units in the country at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, covering the entire spectrum of neurological disorders. The neurocritical care unit provides highly advanced critical services including

·        Neurotrauma (Level 1 Trauma Center)

·        Comprehensive (Level 1) stroke care

·        Advanced neuro-intervention for intra-cranial vascular diseases

·        Advanced tertiary level neuro and general critical care services including advanced heart failure, ECMO and transplant services

·        Support for highly active neurosurgery and neurology residency programs

The fellowship program will provide clinical training in trauma, neurological, neurosurgical and neurovascular disorders, including aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and intracerebral hemorrhage. The unit is managed with collaboration between neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurocritical care physicians, and trauma/critical care surgeons. Participating fellows have significant opportunity for clinical research.

The fellow shall rotate and gain expertise in general critical care as well, joining the ranks of current critical care trainees in the medical, trauma, surgical, coronary, cardiothoracic and transplant ICUs.

Neurocritical care research opportunities in the fields of Traumatic Brain Injury, Spine injuries, Stroke and Neurovascular disorders in neurocritical care are conducted via either the Research Division at the Neurosciences Center, Methodist Research Center, IU School of Medicine Biomedical Research or the Regenstrief institute’s centers of brain health research.

IU School of Medicine currently sponsors 112 ACGME-accredited and over 90 non-accredited residencies and fellowships in a broad range of specialties in locations across Indiana.

IU Health Neuroscience Center is a state-of-the-art outpatient center that unites all the specialties that involve nervous system disorders

·        Neuroradiology

·        Neurophysiology (EEG, EMG and Evoked Potentials) laboratory
