The Department of Neurology at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine is seeking to hire two Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at 1.0 FTE in the Teaching Associate faculty title (ARNP or PA credentials) to support the new Neuro-ICU consult service at UW Medical Center – Montlake Campus, the number 1 hospital in Washington state. These will be faculty appointments within the Department of Neurology.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, academic environment, contributing to patient care, teaching, and clinical program development. The service is a consult service treating patients severely affected with neurological and neurosurgical disease, who are primarily managed in various ICU environments across the hospital. Clinical care responsibilities include taking histories and performing physical examinations, creating care plans and writing consult notes, communicating with consulting teams and collaborating with neurosurgical colleagues. Prior experience in neurology or critical care is welcome, but not required. In addition to a close working relationship with Neurocritical Care attendings on service, there are residents, medical students, and occasional fellows rotating, making for a rich and supportive educational environment.

Beyond direct patient care, other opportunities may include participation in education and training for trainees within the department. For interested applicants there are additional professional growth opportunities and collaborations that include activities with national societies and regional research partnerships.

This is a full-time 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) appointment at the Teaching Associate title. The successful applicant will join one of the country’s largest Neurology departments, with dynamic expertise in all subspecialty areas.

The base salary range for this position will be $9,167-$14,334 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Requirements include Current, valid, and unencumbered Washington State Registered Nurse and Advanced Registered Nurse Licensure with prescriptive authority or PA licensure. Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program. Certification by a national board certifying organization. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment. Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in inpatient care. Clinical expertise in neuroscience disorders is preferred but not required. A foreign equivalent degree.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
