The Advanced Practice Provider Fellow (APP Fellow) is a Board Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Board Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC, AGPCNP-BC, FNP-BC) responsible for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with an attending physician, with oversight and guidance by a primary preceptor. As an APP Fellow, the clinician will be expected to rotate through specialty neurology clinics and inpatient neurology services as part of advanced post-graduate medical education. As a trainee, the APP Fellow will receive preceptor guidance and teaching delivered by a senior advanced practice provider, senior resident, fellow, or attending physician, dependent upon the clinical rotation. The APP Fellow is expected to manage direct patient care as a dominant aspect of the role. They are responsible for coordination of patient care and participation in collaborative medical care with multidisciplinary teams. The APP Fellow is expected to participate in protected, non-clinical didactic education in the form of lectures, simulation, skills labs, case studies, presentations, and other components of the fellow curriculum as determined by the coordinator and director in collaboration with the fellow. The APP Fellow is also responsible for completion of an evidence-based practice or quality-improvement project during their tenure as a fellow.
The Neurology APP Fellowship program’s primary focus will be in adult neurology with the goal of becoming proficient in the care of adult patients in the outpatient setting.
