APP Opportunity – Neuro ICU
Prisma Health, the largest not-for-profit healthcare provider in South Carolina, seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our team of 5 fellowship-trained neurointensivists and 6 Neuro ICU APPs in the Greenville Memorial Hospital Neuro ICU. As a Neuro ICU APP you will manage our neurocritical care patients including post-mechanical thrombectomy stroke patients, status epilepticus, intracranial hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage as a primary service. You will also serve as a neurological consultant to the other ICUs (MICU, CVICU, TICU, SICU, etc.)
The ideal candidate will have critical care APP experience, however other acute care APP experience will be considered. Neuro ICU APPs receive 3-6 months of structured orientation (based on experience), including formal certification in NIH Stroke Scale assessments, Emergency Neurologic Life Support, Modified Rankin Scale, ACLS, 17 one hour didactic power point lectures spanning all aspects of neurocritical care, and supervised procedural training (endotracheal intubation, central line placement, arterial line placement, and lumbar puncture). The goal is for the APP to provide care for our neurocritical care patients semi-independently and to perform the associated procedures with attending support.
All shifts are 12 hours and there is always an in-unit neurointensivist. The APP will be expected to work a mix of 150 days and nights per year (11-12 shifts per 4-week block) although one APP currently works nights exclusively, limiting the total number of nights required by all others.
Day shift Schedule 6a-6p: Night shift Schedule 6p-6a:
1 attending neurointensivist 1 attending neurointensivist
2 APPs or 1-2 APPs plus a resident 1 APP or resident
