Description:
Founded in 1996, the 14-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) in The Queen’s Medical Center is one of the oldest specialized neuroscience units in the country and is the only NSICU for the state of Hawaii. The Queen’s Medical Center is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center and the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the state. The NSICU team provides 24/7 comprehensive critical care management to all patients with severe neurological conditions. The NSICU team is driven primarily by the Neurocritical Care APPs (total of 8 APPs: 2 APPs on day shift, 1 APP on night shift) who work closely with the attending neurointensivist throughout the day. The Neurocritical Care APP practices with maximal autonomy utilizing their license to the fullest potential. This includes independent critical care decision-making, collaboration with other disciplines, and performance of procedures such as insertion of central lines, arterial lines, and lumbar drains; in addition to lumbar punctures, intubations, and bronchoscopy. The candidate will share responsibilities of day, night and weekend/holiday shift coverage with the current APP team members.
