Description:
The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU) is seeking to hire an Advanced Practice Provider-NP/PA with critical care, neurology/neurosurgery, or neurocritical care experience. We are seeking motivated individuals to join our multidisciplinary team of world-class board certified neurointensivists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and neurocritical care fellows to provide the highest-level of neurocritical patient care in our 22-bed neuro-ICU and neurology service. Our mixed Advanced Practice model offers 24/7 coverage of our complex critically-ill patient population consisting of acute stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracranial hemorrhages, brain tumors, status epilepticus, neuromuscular disorders, seizures, CNS infections, cerebrovascular patients, as well as postoperative neurosurgical patients. Our group utilizes cutting-edge neurocritical care monitoring techniques in the care of our patients, such as multimodality, continuous EEG monitoring, and brain tissue oxygenation monitoring, among others.

As a vital member of our group, the NP/PA will work directly with the neurocritical care intensivists/faculty, fellows, residents, and existing NCCU NPs/PAs group to provide independent evidence-based care in an academic institution. The NP/PA will also consult on post-operative neurosurgical patients boarding in the PACU posted for ICU, provide coverage to the neurology team when needed, and perform procedures such as placement of central venous catheters, arterial lines, lumbar punctures etc. Scheduling availability includes a day/night rotating 12-hour shifts, or a night shift schedule with shift and weekend differentials provided (0630-1830; 1830-0630). The APP will work 13 shifts every 4-week period, and rotating holidays based on safe staffing needs of our NCCU.

The NP/PA will also be encouraged to assist in education of residents/interns, nursing and other staff, as well as scientific research. Continuing education in the subspecialty is encouraged and supported.

UMMC’s Advanced Practice centralized leadership affords candidates with support with onboarding, orientation program and true ongoing collegial development with our established leadership model.
