NCS Guidelines Committee

The NCS Guidelines Committee directs the development of specialty appropriate clinical practice guidelines, oversees internal and external review of documents requesting imprimatur of the society, and collaborates with other societies when endorsement or affirmation of content is requested. The Guidelines Committee also provides guidance on nomenclature and allocation of resources for new projects that seek NCS imprimatur, and/or could benefit from structure and oversight provided by the committee.

Responsibilities:

  • Determining topics suitable for guideline development

  • Assisting with document nomenclature

  • Identifying key content experts for selected topics

  • Facilitating development of clinical practice guidelines utilizing the GRADE approach

  • Managing internal and external peer review processes

  • Organizing expert panels to address controversial issues

  • Coordinating endorsements and collaborations with other societies

  • Determining document distribution through publication, presentation at national and international meetings, and other electronic communications
