Neurocritical Care Knowledge Exchange: 2026 Webinar Series High-Stakes Teams: Applying Organizational Science to Optimize NeuroICU Team Dynamics
October 1, 2026
| 1:00 PM
The neuroICU represents one of the most cognitively complex and emotionally intense environments in medicine. Care is delivered by highly specialized professionals operating under time pressure, prognostic uncertainty, and evolving clinical trajectories. Yet despite extraordinary technical expertise, outcomes often hinge on something less visible: the quality of team dynamics.
This webinar integrates principles from organizational development with real-world neuroICU experience to explore how team structure, communication patterns, role clarity, psychological safety, and leadership behaviors influence patient care. An organizational development consultant will introduce core concepts of high-performing teams, including shared mental models, adaptive leadership, cognitive load management, and conflict navigation in high-stakes settings.
An interdisciplinary panel consisting of a neurointensivist, advanced practice provider, and nurse (could also include RT/PT/OT) will then translate these principles into the lived reality of neuroICU practice. Panelists will discuss how role clarity, escalation pathways, rounding structure, and interdisciplinary trust impact decision-making in complex cases.
The session will emphasize actionable strategies to strengthen collaboration, reduce fragmentation, and align around a shared goal: optimal neurologic recovery for the patient we collectively serve.
Webinar Objectives:
- Describe foundational principles of high-performing teams from organizational science and apply them to the neuroICU setting.
