Fellowship directors and recent trainees will discuss their experiences and share advice around the faculty job process; two fellowship directors (Columbia University, University of Washington - FDS co-chairs) will discuss how they mentor their fellows during this process, and their perspective on how the job market has evolved over the years, and 3 recent graduates/NCC faculty (Rush university, Mount Sinai, Hartford Healthcare/St. Vincent's Medical Center) will review their experiences during a wide job search, covering various geographic regions, academic versus private institutions, visa considerations (J1 waiver), and negotiations. The session will be moderated by two current fellows who are members of the trainee section.
Webinar Objectives (for fellows):
1. Outline a structured approach to the faculty job search, including networking, application preparation, interview strategy, and navigating/determining key priorities.
2. Compare different faculty role models (clinician-educator, clinician-researcher, clinical track, tenure track; academia versus private practice) and determine alignment with career goals.
3. Assess key components of a faculty offer letter.
4. Demonstrate effective negotiation strategies, including: Framing requests, prioritizing high-impact terms, understanding non-salary negotiables

1. Implement structured mentorship strategies to support fellows in: Clarifying career goals, identifying appropriate job types, preparing CVs and teaching portfolios, and interview preparation
2. Guide fellows in evaluating institutional culture, promotion pathways, academic advancement and long-term career fit.
3. Recognize important considerations in negotiations and advise on negotiation practices.
