OBJECTIVES:
April 16, 2026 - Foundations of Point of Care Cranial Ultrasound: Bridging TCD and TCCD
This webinar provides a practical foundation in transcranial ultrasound for clinicians preparing to advance their skills and gain better understanding of Transcranial Color Doppler (TCCD) in Point of Care assessments. The session introduces essential concepts in both traditional transcranial Doppler (TCD) and TCCD, focusing on techniques achievable with conventional phased-array ultrasound probes. Participants will review cranial B-mode anatomy, cerebrovascular landmarks, and the basics of color Doppler imaging to support accurate insonation. The webinar also covers core applications in neurocritical care, including introductory approaches to evaluating elevated intracranial pressure and noninvasive ICP estimation.
- Describe the principles and limitations of obtaining transcranial Doppler (TCD) measurements using a conventional phased-array ultrasound probe
- Identify key cranial landmarks and vessel anatomy on B-mode and color Doppler imaging to support accurate insonation during transcranial ultrasound
- Explain the role of transcranial ultrasound in evaluating intracranial hypertension, including basic approaches to noninvasive ICP estimation
June 18, 2026 - Pediatric Brain Death Determination: Aligning Practice, People, and Process
This engaging and interactive webinar will explore the many dimensions of pediatric brain death determination, from bedside clinical practice to communication and systems-level support. We will review key differences between adult and pediatric brain death determination, with a focus on practical implications for clinicians caring for children. The session will also address how to communicate clearly and compassionately with families during brain death evaluation, as well as important nursing considerations in supporting patients, families, and care teams throughout the process. Finally, we will discuss strategies for building hospital systems, workflows, and interdisciplinary support structures that promote consistency, confidence, and high-quality care. Through case discussions and multidisciplinary perspectives, attendees will gain practical insights they can apply in their own institutions

August 20, 2026 - Things I Wish I Knew Before Graduating as a Fellow
Transitioning from fellowship to independent practice is often more challenging than expected, with many critical lessons learned only after starting as faculty. In this session, neurocritical care attendings will share reflections on what they wish they had known before graduating, from clinical decision-making and managing responsibility to navigating contracts, mentorship, and career direction. Through a practical and experience-driven discussion, this webinar aims to equip trainees with insights that can accelerate their growth and help them avoid common early-career pitfalls.
This session will focus on insights that are rarely taught formally during training.
- Apply practical strategies for navigating the transition to faculty, including clinical, professional, and personal domains.
- Develop a framework for early career decision-making, including mentorship, job fit, and long-term growth.
- Recognize common early-career pitfalls and how to proactively avoid them.
- Identify key gaps between fellowship training and early independent practice in neurocritical care.
November 19, 2026 - Building a Research Question: Perspectives Across Career Stages
This webinar explores how to craft strong, focused research questions by integrating perspective, context, and purpose across different career stages. Participants will learn how researchers can refine their questions to align with evolving expertise, impact goals, and disciplinary contributions.
- Evaluate the feasibility of research questions by aligning scope, methods, and timelines with available resources.
- Assess potential scholarly and real-world impact to prioritize research questions with meaningful and scalable outcomes.
- Identify and leverage institutional, collaborative, and funding resources to strengthen and sustain well-designed research questions.
December 17, 2026 - Creating a Reasonable Accommodations Policy for BD/DNC
This webinar will guide NCS members through an experience of creating a reasonable accommodations policy, describing the clinical, ethical, and legal aspects considered and the multidisciplinary process of review and approval.
- Analyze the legal and ethical requirements established by the 2023 AAN/AAP/CNS/ASNR Brain Death/Death by Neurologic Criteria guidelines regarding the need for reasonable accommodations in the continuum of care in BD/DNC including the withdrawal organ support.
- Describe a process for creating an institutional "Reasonable Accommodations" policy that promotes clinical standards of care while recognizing requests for accommodations.
- Evaluate strategies for utilizing administrative protocols for understanding and resolving conflicts with families to ensure and equitable, ethical, and legally defensible policy implementation.
